THINGS TO DO
GOING TO THE BEACH |
There are many wonderful sandy beaches within easy reach, the nearest being Zahara de los Atunes,
which is 5km away (along a track by bicycle or jogging), or 6km-10mins by car by road. |
ZAHARA DE LOS ATUNES |
10 minutes' drive away, with its great
beach, and a wide range of bars, restaurants and nightlife. |
BARBATE |
Up the coast from Zahara, 15mins' drive
from the cortijo, with its beach promenade with many restaurants and bars. It still retains a Spanish feel
and it has a traditional marketplace which is well worth a visit.

WALKING AND CYCLING |
There is a lot of very pleasant
countryside for both walking and cycling, directly from the cortijo or a short drive away. |
VEJER DE LA FRONTERA |
A beautiful 'white village' on the top
of a hill with wonderful views. With its narrow, winding, cobbled streets and many historical buildings
it is like a living museum. About 30 minutes' pleasant drive away. |
WIND SURFING, KITE SURFING |
An important wind-surfing location is
Los Caņos de Meca, about 35 minutes away. In Tarifa (see below) both sports are very popular. |
MEDINA SIDONIA |
45 minutes away, another 'white village'
set high amid lovely countryside with a large main square where you can eat and soak up the atmosphere.
It has an impressive church steeped with history, as the town used to be the capital of the area.
From the top dome it has panoramic views of the surrounding area. |
BOLONIA AND ROMAN RUINS |
It has a great beach and restaurants
looking directly at the sea. The Roman ruins of Baelo Claudia were a town providing a special
fish-product for the capital of the empire. A 40 minute drive from the cortijo. |
TARIFA - GATEWAY TO MOROCCO |
On the corner where the Mediterranean
meets the Atlantic, it is a town with a charming old-part and many shops selling Moroccan and Indian
decorations. From here you can take the hydrofoil (35mins) to Tangiers, Morocco. Ferries also go
from Algeciras to Tangiers. |
WHALE AND DOLPHIN WATCHING |
From Tarifa
you can be taken on a boat trip to see whales and dolphins in the wild. A 40 min drive from the cortijo.

There are 4 a golf courses within
easy reach; Montenmedio (25 mins), San Andres (40 mins), Novo Sancti Petri (45 mins),

HORSE RIDING |
In Vejer, Tarifa and Conil guided
horseriding can be done. |
CADIZ |
The provincial capital and one of the
oldest cities in Europe, first occupied by the Phonoecians 3000 years ago. Very nice beaches, a cathedral,
museums, tourist-bus round trips, a tower with panoramic views etc.. A 50 minute drive away. |
JEREZ |
Just over a hour away, it offers
the sherry 'bodegas', a world-famous equestrian school, beautiful old squares etc.. |
SEVILLA |
The city is just over 2 hours
away by car and has much to offer the tourist.. |
